West Central Economic Development Alliance celebrates Economic Development Week, May 12-16
May 9, 2025
The West Central Economic Development Alliance, or WCEDA, is proud to join in with communities nationwide by recognizing Economic Development Week, or EDW, from May 12 to 16. This annual event, created by the International Economic Development Council, shines a spotlight on the critical role economic development plays in strengthening our communities, creating jobs, and improving quality of life.
Economic development shapes the future of Wadena County by attracting investment, supporting local businesses, and preparing the workforce for tomorrow’s opportunities. It’s also the foundation for a more vibrant, resilient, and inclusive local economy.
“Economic development isn’t just about the numbers – it’s about people,” Hope Williams, Executive Director of WCEDA, said. “We’re committed to helping all of our businesses succeed, our residents thrive, and our entire region grow together.”
What Economic Development Means for WCEDA
Economic development is more than just business attraction. It’s a multi-faceted effort to build long-term prosperity. At WCEDA, we work hand-in-hand with local leaders, municipalities in our service area, employers, small business owners, and community partners to ensure Wadena County remains a competitive and desirable place to live, work, and invest.
The pillars of WCEDA are the foundation of all Alliance activities:
- Education
- Networking
- Advocacy
How WCEDA Powers Progress
As the region’s dedicated economic development organization, WCEDA serves as a connector, advocate, and catalyst for opportunity. Our services are designed to help businesses – from the just-launched to established employers – grow and succeed.
Business Retention and Expansion (BRE): WCEDA works directly with local businesses to understand their individual needs and help them overcome barriers to growth.
Marketing and Business Attraction: Through our educational efforts, WCEDA engages in communication and public relations to promote community events and engagement opportunities for businesses, such as Small Business Saturday. We also promote Wadena county through relationship building.
Small Business Support: WCEDA empowers entrepreneurs to transition ideas into thriving enterprises. A satellite office of the North Central SBDC is located directly in the WCEDA building at 308 Frontage Road in Sebeka. Through the office, new or established businesses can access assistance with finances, business planning, marketing, research, and more.
Incentives and Financial Tools: Our colocated SBDC and connections with local, state, and federal resources mean WCEDA can help businesses tap into the tools needed to fuel innovation and expansion.
Workforce Development: Through relationships with local schools and higher education institutions, WCEDA supports the development of a talent pipeline aligned with industry needs.
